The History of Temple Beth El

Founded in 1867, Temple Beth El, which means “House of God” (Genesis 35:7), was the central institution of the Jewish community of Phillips, Lee, and Monroe counties in eastern Arkansas.

Monuments of Faith

Today, Beth El Heritage Hall, Temple Beth El Cemetery, the Beth El Historical Pavilion and Temple Beth El’s Ark all stand as monuments to the Jewish community of Helena’s shared faith, shared history, and mutual love for one another.

Stories from a Jewish Diaspora

On September 14th, 2024, members of Temple Beth El’s diaspora gathered together to dedicate a historic pavilion at Beth El Cemetery. These are some of their memories and stories that were shared that weekend.
